The contribution of mobility in the Decade of Healthy Ageing:
Exchanging International Experiences and Multidisciplinary Research

Ageing societies continue to be an important issue globally, reflected in the World Health Organization designating the coming years as the “Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030”. This designation builds on the United Nations Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and looks to engage with, and operate alongside the United Nations Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development Goals. The principal objective within this ageing framework is the collaboration of all the involved stakeholders in order to improve the ways older people enjoy their daily life. In line with this goal, this event will bring together an international panel to discuss and exchange their reflections on how their research with older people and mobility might contribute to the goals for the decade.

The “Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030” prioritises four main areas of policy interventions: the creation of age-friendly environments, combatting ageism, and actions to improve both integrated and long-term care. Whilst mobility is strongly manifest in age-friendly environments, it also plays a role in the other policy contexts. In this webinar speakers will focus on the role of mobility as a critical parameter of the age-friendly environments needed in order to age in place. The webinar is open both to academics and practitioners and the following topics will be discussed:

  • Evidence-based actions to develop and ensure affordable, accessible, sustainable mobility
  • Efficient partnerships between connected sectors of older people’s mobility
  • Plans/vision for the future of older people’s mobility
