A Beautiful Garden - Workshop 2

Thu 23rd Sep 2021

A beautiful garden: a caring approach to using evidence in learning and development in dementia care homes – workshop series autumn 2021

Dementia care homes at their best are like a beautiful garden, in which residents, unpaid carers and staff all thrive, learn and grow together. From September to November 2021, the Developing Evidence Enriched Practice (DEEP) programme, working with Social Care Wales, Improvement Cymru and the Centre for Dementia and Ageing Research will host a series of 1-hour workshops to explore three broad themes to support care homes in becoming beautiful gardens, which are:

  • Preparing the ground: The first three workshops will focus on how to create the best environment within which people can grow and learn together. It will include a focus on how we support the well-being of residents, families and staff and how to lead a caring culture of learning.
  • Collecting and preparing the seeds: The following three workshops will focus on how we gather and share different kinds of evidence that can be used as a starting point for learning and development. This includes knowledge from research as well the lived experiences of residents, families and staff.
  • Sowing the seeds and growing the garden: The final three workshops will focus on what we can do with the knowledge we have gathered – how we can talk and learn together to develop our understanding and go about putting this into practice for the benefit of all.

Who should attend? These workshops are aimed at anyone with an interest in supporting learning and development in care homes.

Will attendance be accredited? These workshops are supported by Social Care Wales and will count towards care home managers post registration training and learning (PTRL).
