ENRICH Cymru develops its focus

12th December, 2017

The ENRICH Cymru network is co-hosted by the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research, and the Wales School for Social SteffWatts.PNGCare Research. ENRICH Cymru and My Home Life Cymru will be working closely together to improve the quality of life of those living and working in Care Homes across Wales. Steff Watts is its Coordinator.

ENRICH stands for ‘Enabling Research in Care Homes’. Since starting in post at the beginning of September, the main focus has been on developing the identity of ENRICH Cymru and devising a strategy for recruitment and development of the network, comprising training in the use of social media, website design and designing promotional materials. This work stream has included liaising with key researchers in the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research, Swansea University and Bangor University; the West Midlands ENRICH team in Birmingham; ENRICH Management and attending several conferences. So far, the ENRICH Cymru logo and twitter account have been launched, with the website to follow in early 2018.

A Research Development group focused on End of Life Care in Care Homes is taking forward this important area of work, crossing over with one of My Home Life Cymru’s 8 best practice themes: Supporting good end of life (“Guide me to the end”), leading to a showcase event bringing together Health and Social Care professionals with Researchers and third sector organisations in December.

Steff Watts and Suzy Webster (My Home Life Cymru) are continuing to work closely alongside each other to support and develop both the ENRICH and My Home Life networks across Wales. A trip to North Wales is scheduled for the end of 2017 to meet with the Centre for National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research and discussions have begun linking up on Care Home training packages with Dementia Services Development Centre, Bangor University. Steff will continue to facilitate these links with her previous workplace.

Looking ahead to 2018, the official launch of ENRICH Cymru is scheduled for March 8th 2018 in Pembrokeshire, at the first national conference for My Home Life Cymru in Wales. There is a lot of interest and excitement around ENRICH launching in Wales and a consensus that a network to facilitate a network of ‘research ready’ care homes will be an invaluable resource for both Researchers and Care Home staff and residents.
