HUB SPARKS: Promoting multidisciplinary discovery for healthy ageing in Wales: Loneliness, social isolation and health inequalities - impact on health and social wellbeing
Tue 9th Jul 2019
We invite you to our first HUB SPARKS workshop:
3.00-5.00pm, Life Sciences Hub Wales (Cardiff Bay)
As the population grows older in Wales, there are growing pressures on health and social services. HUB SPARKS is a workshop bringing together industry, organisations and individuals working in the area of healthy ageing and age friendly communities to understand the issues facing older people and their health and social care needs, now and in the future. The workshop will focus on the issue of loneliness and will look to understand the ways in which loneliness can be alleviated through the development of innovative solutions, services and products. Please register here to attend the event.
Speaker: The workshop will hear from Dr Deborah Morgan (Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research at Swansea University) on how loneliness affects older people’s mental health and wellbeing and links with health inequalities as well as looking to understand the ways in which loneliness can be alleviated.
What are HUB SPARKS workshops?
A series of workshops fostering multidisciplinary discovery around the key problems facing our health and social care systems in Wales now and into the future. Bringing together academics, NHS, third sector and industry to pool ideas and strategies, the workshops will scope and develop innovative solutions, services and products to these problems. Hub SPARKS will focus on areas such as Healthy Ageing, AI and Data, Precision Medicine and bringing care closer to home. The first set of workshops will shine a light on the issue of Healthy Ageing; taking an ecological approach to health in later life to understand the environment where older people live, work and play, covering areas such as: Age friendly communities, Loneliness and Isolation, Dementia support, falls prevention, health inequalities and opportunities for learning and employment.
